Reserves and Resources Files
Oil and Sales Gas reserves and resources are presented differently to numbers usually announced by governments/oil companies and collated in the Statistical Review (amongst other publications).
Reserves and resources are defined as ‘cumulative reserves’ (produced up to a given year) or ‘remaining reserves and resources’ (produced up to a final year - 2100). They are divided by water depth and given yearly from 1950, forecast to 2050. They represent most likely cumulative and remaining reserves and resources in every country and selected regions in each year.
Some resources will remain unproduced after 2100. Volumes will likely be small and will primarily be used outside the energy industry (e.g. for plastics and fertilisers).
